Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT)
Program Overview
Program Goals & FMCSA Accreditation
The primary goal is to prepare student drivers to successfully meet the New ELDT Federal regulations (effective February 7, 2022) and pass the CDL Skills Driving test
Georgia DDS Requirements (Prerequisites)
Applicants must satisfy these conditions before beginning training:
- Permit: Must hold a valid Georgia Commercial Instructional Permit (CLP).
- Health: Must pass a vision exam, DOT Physical, and Drug & Alcohol screening.
- Waiting Period: The CLP must be held for at least 14 days before applying for a CDL.
- Language: Applicants must be able to read, write, and understand English.
- Vehicle & Instructor: Must operate the appropriate class of vehicle, accompanied by a licensed instructor.
Age Restriction Alert
Drivers aged 18-21 are restricted to driving only within Georgia (Intrastate). This restriction can be removed upon turning 21.
Training Overview
Structure & Focus
- Duration: 3 to 4 weeks.
- Instruction: Delivered by expert HOFT instructors (Theory & Behind The Wheel).
- Vehicle Focus: Proficiency in driving a manual transmission commercial vehicle.
Key Training Segments
- FMCSA Regulations and Compliance.
- Mastering the Pre/Post-Trip Inspection.
- Basic Vehicle Controls (Shifting, Backing, Stopping).
- Coupling and Uncoupling procedures.
- Visual Search, Hazard Perception, and Communication.
- Emergency Procedures (Skid Control, Post-Crash).
- Vehicle Maintenance and Trip Planning.
Client Responsibilities
Maintaining eligibility requires adherence to the following:
- No alcohol or drug use permitted.
- Successfully pass and maintain a valid vision exam, DOT Physical, and Drug & Alcohol screening.
- Attend and participate in all classroom (Theory) and on-the-road (BTW) training sessions for the full 4-6 week duration.
Strict Attendance Policy
Missing more than 3 days of training may result in termination of the agreement with no refund issued.
